We are now almost 2 weeks away from our first public sharing of 1000 Songs at the Arcola's Grimeborn Opera Festival and we're very excited. Our research and development week was inspiring, energetic and intense. We were very lucky to be joined by Phil Jervis, a martial arts expert, and Shakeh Major Tchilingiran, a specialist in Armenian dance, who perceptively and graciously brought their skills to our work. We experimented with music and electronics, song and spoken word, animation, costume and projection. On one afternoon we were delighted to be joined by one of our generous supporters who recorded their voice as part of the chorus.
We are now in the midst of our "making" period, where all the wonderful and brilliant ideas that were brought into our rehearsal room in R&D are now beginning to truly flourish. Opera is certainly a team effort - and in Punch Punch and Myaseen Collective we have a wide range of disciplines which we are drawing upon to create this opera. See our 'Episodes' page for a glimpse of what we're up to.
We are thrilled to be showing our work at Arcola during the residency of Mosaic Opera Collective - BAME opera makers celebrating new and diverse work. In the first half of the week Mosaic are running a vibrant programme of presentations, discussions, networking events and professional development workshops. Aris Nadirian will be delivering a talk on Armenian opera and Cevanne (our composer), Ziazan (our librettist/singer) and Seta (our director) will be taking part in a discussion on BAME women working in opera and classical music, moderated by Sophie Gilpin of SWAP'ra. Get your tickets here.
As we are gearing up towards rehearsals which begin next week we must say a huge thank you to all of our 43 backers who so kindly donated through our crowdfunding campaign. None of this would be possible without all of you and our sponsors: Arts Council England, Saint Sarkis Charity Trust and AGBU London Trust. We have been overwhelmed by the support we have received for this project from so many people.
So don't miss out and buy a ticket for 'Platform 2' on the 18th or 19th August. We want to see you all there!
